INFORMATION ABOUT BRIDGESTONE TYRES
Bridgestone tyres are now a household name when it comes to getting people from A to B, And rightly so. The company makes tyres for nearly everything that moves on wheels.
Bridgestone is a Japanese company founded by Shojiro Ishibashi. Bridgestone produced their first tyre in 1930 and was the first Japanese tyre manufacturer.
The name Bridgestone came from the literal English translation of the founder’s last name 'Ishibashi' which means 'stone bridge' but they thought that it sounded better when reversed.
In 1988 Bridgestone tyres purchased the Firestone tyre company for $ 2.6 billion and have been developing the company to new levels.
In 1997 Bridgestone tyres entered the Formula one competition, cars equipped with Bridgestone Potenza tyres captured four podium finishes in the companies rookie season.
In 2004 Bridgestone inaugurated its European proving ground at Aprilia, near Rome (Italy). Covering 144 hectares and dominated by a 4km oval circuit the €40 million facility gives Bridgestone modern year-round testing in Europe.
Bridgestone tyres are constantly awarded new and exclusive contracts with the biggest car manufacturers such as Ferrari, BMW, Audi & Daimler-Chrysler to mention a few. They are proud to have the Potenza RE050 tread pattern fitted to Ferrari’s ultra performance car the 'Enzo'. Equally important are their fitments on general use cars such as the Volkswagen Polo and Peugeot 307.
Bridgestone’s Potenza tyre range is a supremely confident performer. Built for powerful sports cars and demanding drivers. Potenza tyres are direct descendants of the tyres that have won a remarkable string of F1 victories. Superior technology in every aspect of its design. Ply, Tread, compound: all ensure that you squeeze every last ounce of performance out of your car. As it says on some of Bridgestone’s logos they have 'Passion for Excellence'.
