Goodyear Tyre & Rubber Company was founded in Ohio (USA) in 1898 when founder Frank Seiberling purchased the company’s first plant using money borrowed from a brother-in-law. The company was named after the pioneer Charles Goodyear, the discoverer of vulcanisation. Seiberling determined the winged-foot trademark that remains a symbolic link with the company’s past.
To date Goodyear is thought to be the world’s largest tyre company, with a presence on six continents and annual sales of more than billion. The Goodyear company produces several other brands, including Dunlop and Fulda.
In 1964 Goodyear tyres were used on the Spirit of America with Craig Breedlove who became the first man to top 600 mph at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
In 1970 Goodyear had the first ever tyres on the moon, Apollo 14’s modularized equipment transporter had Goodyear XLT tyres.
In 2000 Goodyear made an agreement with Michelin to combine the best of their Pax system with Goodyear’s EMT run-flat tyre breakthroughs, the joint venture includes research and development in to the products.
Goodyear tyres are rigorously tested on the track to deliver maximum performance off the track. From drag racing to the NASCAR race series, Goodyear tyres are put through their paces. As a market leader Goodyear is a preferred provided to many manufacturers, including VW, BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari, TVR, and Rolls Royce.
