Michelin Tyres

Michelin is probably the most recognised tyre brand in the world. The French company was founded by the Michelin brothers 'Andre and Edouard' in 1889.

The world famous Michelin logo (Michelin Man) or his official name ‘Bibendum’ is a living tyre. Its believed to have been designed when the Michelin brothers saw a pile of stacked tyres which looked like the shape of a human, they took the idea to an artist who created the Michelin Man.

Michelin is a world leading tyre manufacturer with a long history of pioneering innovation since the invention of the radial tyre in 1946. Technical excellence has always been the hallmark of Michelin branded tyres which are renowned for their high performance in terms of safety, handling, comfort and durability. This is reflected through Michelin’s long history of motorsport success, in Grand Prix racing, World Rally and Le Mans.

Michelin also enjoys strong relationships with vehicle manufacturers many of which choose to fit Michelin tyres to their brand new flagship models. Just like Porsche and Bugatti, more than one new Porsche in two is fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres (Porsche 911, Boxster and Cayman).

The Michelin Pilot Sport is fitted to the Bugatti Veyron which on a closed circuit in 2005, set a world speed record of over 250 mph. The Pilot Sport’s Structure and tread pattern come directly from Formula One technology.

It is said that Michelin have the largest budget in the tyre sector for research and development and have around 4000 people dedicated to this. The Michelin range has a long reputation for longevity and is seen by many to be the longest lasting tyres on the market. Michelin tyres are among the best in the world and are renown for excellent performance, comfort and safety.

Michelin have even developed the revolutionary non-pneumatic 'Tweel ', an integrated tyre and wheel combination missing one ingredient that is vital for a traditional tyre....air! In Detroit 2005 Michelin showcased its potential future for mobility.
