Run Flat Tyres

WHAT IS A RUN-FLAT TYRE?

A Run-Flat tyre is basically a "self supporting tyre" (SST). It is a radial tyre with the addition of internally reinforced sidewalls which are capable of withstanding the weight of the vehicle at zero pressure. This technology allows the vehicle to the driven with no air in the tyres. This helps if the tyres have sudden loss of air , as the vehicle will be more controllable unlike a blowout with normal tyres. Many cars with Run-Flat tyres do not even have a spare wheel, because if the vehicle has a puncture it can be driven to a garage or to a safe area away from the road. Most Run-Flat tyres can be driven for 50 miles at up to 50 mph. (please consult vehicle and tyre manufacture for specific Run-Flat speeds and ranges) These tyres are also much more resistant to unseating than a standard tyre. Run-Flat tyres need to be used with tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), these will indicate when a tyre has loss of pressure.

CAN I USE REPLACE RUN-FLAT TYRES WITH STANDARD TYRES?

Fitting standard tyres to a vehicle originally equipped with SST tyres is not recommended, as this will affect the vehicle�s performance. However, it is physically possible to replace SST tyres with standard tyres. If you are considering doing this we recommend consulting your vehicle manufacturer, tyre manufacturer and insurance company.

• Run-Flat tyre should not be mixed with standard tyres on a vehicle.
• It is recommended that Run-Flat tyres should be used in identical sets of 4.
• If considering getting a Run-Flat tyre repaired please contact us, as most Run-Flat tyres should not be repaired only a few Run-Flat tyres can be repaired and with different rules to the procedure.
